Could Asset Management be That Different Than Household Management?

My favorite person was my Aunt Clothilde, a great lady who was born in Europe and went into banking when it was considered a man’s business.  Clothilde was raised to marry well, manage a large home and family, and support her husband.  Unfortunately she was widowed in World War II and decided to manage her husband’s estate herself.  She was told that she could not do that since she did not know even the basics of banking or asset management in switzerland, which were essential.  My aunt figured that wealth management could not be more complicated than running a large estate, so she went to college and learned.  She got a degree, increased her wealth, and left a wonderful inheritance of both money and independence to her daughters.
