Changing Definitions
In the State of Michigan, the definition for learning disability has recently changed. I am a high school teacher and am invited to go to many different types of meetings for multiple reasons. Some of these reasons are to determine if a student qualifies for special education services and other times the meetings are to develop accommodations to make the student more successful in spite of their disability. I do not have a certification for special education, but attending these meetings has taught me many things about the programs. Since the definitions have changed, I have only been to one meeting. I am anxious to get invited to more so that I can have a better understanding of all of the new jargon.
