Taking your pulse during a fitness workout

In order to receive the most benefit from your cardiovascular workouts you should regularly monitor your exercise intensity to find out whether you are within your target fitness heart rate zone. One way of accomplishing this is to actually take your pulse during your workout. Here are some instructions on how to do this. Pressing lightly with your index and middle finger under your ear and then slide your index finger down directly under your jawbone. After you find your pulse, start with zero and  for 10 seconds count the number of beats and multiply this by six. Checking a your pulse at regular intervals throughout your workout will allow you to monitor whether or not you are training within your target heart rate zone.
