The Acceptability of Drinking and the Effects of Alcohol Abuse
One thing about our society that befuddles me is the realization of the negative effects of alcohol abuse and the tremendous number of bars, state stores, convenient food marts, grocery stores, and sporting events that sell alcohol to people. In a word, doesn’t it appear to be a contradiction in terms to focus on the unhealthy and the damaging effects of alcohol abuse on the one hand and make alcohol so glamorized, accepted, and accessible on the other? In fact, alcohol is so pervasive and highly advertised in our society that many young people must be thinking that drinking heavily is a part of growing up and becoming an adult.
