Why Do So Many High Blood Pressure Sufferers Fail To Take Their Medication?

There are almost as many reasons for not taking high blood pressure medication as there are people who are prescribed medication by their doctors. However, in general people tend to fall into one of three main categories. First, there are those people who are simply not organized in their lives in general and who simply run out of pills, forget to refill their prescription or are too busy and forget to take their pills. Second, there are those individuals who are well intentioned but who do not take their medication because they haven’t understood just how the medication is supposed to be taken (perhaps because of language difficulties) or who have memory problems and often believe that they have taken their medication even when they haven’t. Finally, there are those people who either think they know better than their doctor or for whom cost is a major factor and who only take their medication when they feel they need it.
