Racing British seagull outboard motors
Racing dingys and small boats fitted with Seagul outboard engines began in New Zealand in 1988 with the Careys Bay Yachting Club at Dunedin. Raceday on the Dunedin harbour can attract over 70 entries in some of the vintage seagull races. Racing classic British Seagull Outboards is popular with enthusiats who modify their outboards to reach speeds up to 14 mph.
The Great Annual British Seagull Race is held every Easter in New Zealand. The event is held over two days and it boasts to be the Longest Seagull Race in the World. The race down the Waikato River starts at Karapio Dam and finishes in Port Waikato, over 150 km away. The main emphasis on the event is having lots of fun and New Zealand celebrities have taken part in the past.
