Motor Home Manufacturers are Tightening Their Belts
In the face of the recent economic crisis, even larger, long-standing motor home companies like Winnebago Industries Inc. are feeling the hurt. Winnebago, the Number one manufacturer of motorhomes in North America, has announced that layoffs are underway at its Forest City, Iowa plant. This plant is responsible for producing about 90 percent of Winnebago’s motor home products and employs more than 3,000 workers.
Most likely discouraged by the fact that retail trends in the motor home marketplace, have decreased severely since late summer, 2008, they have not announced yet how many workers would be affected by the layoff, which is the first for Winnebago since the fall of 2006, when Winnebago cut just 170 workers.
